Sneezing / nasal discharge

Sneezing and runny nose is common in Labrador retrievers and other breeds. It may be caused by minor conditions such as hay fever, a foreign object housed in the nose or by major problems such as canine nasal tumors. Dogs also sneeze when they wake up or they are simply placed on the back. Sneezing itself is not a disease but it could be a sign of disease. Blood leaving the nose of your dog may be a sign of canine nasal tumor or may be just a foreign body lodged in his nasal cavity. Seek veterinary assistance immediately to diagnose the underlying cause.

The breathing problems

Over there in certain circumstances in which a dog may have difficulty breathing. There are several reasons for this difficult situation. Reasons for this include difficulty breathing physical barriers preventing entry of normal air, injury to the chest pneumonia, tumors, heart failure, poisoning, allergic reaction, pain, smoke inhalation, heat stroke and lung damaged or diaphragm. Fast and shallow breathing may just be a response to conditions such as shock considering labored breathing may be a sign heart failure or a tumor. Wheezing may indicate that there may be an obstruction or foreign object present.

Cough

The cough is not uncommon for dogs. It could be caused by allergy, pollution, infection or foreign material in the passages air. Other causes include inhalation or ingestion of toxic substances, the liquid in the thoracic cavity, worms, heart disease, lung disease or injuries. If cough worsens, consult your veterinarian for help. Cough in dogs may be contagious if it is caused by the bacterium bordatella bronchiseptica. This condition is called canine cough or kennel cough. Canine cough is characterized by a harsh, dry cough that lasts about five days after contact with a carrier disease. The cough causes a loss of appetite, depression and a runny nose as well. Vaccine against bordatella must be administered to prevent your dog from acquiring this disease.
