How do I remove the strong smell of perfume from clothing that was given to me?

They were washed and rewashed and rinsed several times. The washing and soaking in borax, vinegar, soap unscented, so failed to get rid odor. Neither does hanging clothes outdoors under the sun. Why detergent makers believe that consumers need for much of their fragrance soaps, I want to know, especially with allergies that so many people.
